ROAD ANGELS

Nearly 300,000 Malaysian motorists commute daily between Johor and Singapore. Accidents on the road are frequent. It’s not something anyone likes to think about, but unfortunately, road accidents can happen at any time. As easy as it is to overlook things in the heat of the moment, it’s important to be prepared if the worst happens. These are the steps that you should take if you have witnessed an accident in Singapore involving a fellow Malaysian working there.

WHAT TO DO?

1. STOP & HELP OUT BY CALLING 995

Introduce yourself and provide them with a flyer as a means of contacting the SAHC for assistance. You need to help the accident victim and call 995 (Emergency Ambulance) if they are injured and need to be taken to the hospital. Advise the accident victim to get treatment from a Singapore hospital and tell them that the employer must pay the medical fee if they are a Work Permit or S-Pass Holder, or if they had been on the road in the course of their employment.

2. WARN AGAINST TOUTS AND SECURE PHONE NUMBER

It is imperative to warn the victim against dealing with touts. Reassure them that their vehicle will be safely taken into custody by the Traffic Police. You should collect the contact details of the accident victim. This is to facilitate contacting the victim once you have identified and found witnesses of their accident on their behalf.

3. TAKE A VIDEO & UPLOAD IT

Access the Road Angels’ website at https://000.sg and take a video of the accident scene using the camera application contained on the website after entering the contact number of the accident victim. Remember to capture details such as the registration plate of the vehicles involved as well as any features that may assist in identifying the location of the accident.

Help Others

Immerse yourself and make a difference to the lives of Malaysians working in Singapore by helping them to have their rights.
